Murray essay “Teach Writing as a Process Not Product”, both authors point out keys techniques that are useful to recognize when writing. In Anne Lamott essay she mentions, “Now, practically even better news than that of short assignments is the idea of shitty first drafts. All good writers write them. This is how they end up with good second drafts and terrific third drafts.” Anne Lamott argues that you need to “let go and write those shitty first drafts that lead to clarity and sometimes brilliance in our second and third drafts.” Nevertheless, Lamott summarizes on how successful writing begins with terrible first efforts and to trust the writing process. The author Murray of “Teach writing as a Process Not Product” believes successful writing comes from breaking the writing process into 3 stages prewriting, writing, and rewriting. Murray wrote, “Not overnight, for writing is a demanding, intellectual process; but sooner than you think, for the process can be put to work to produce a product which may be worth your reading.” Murray summarizes that learning this writing process will help any writer struggling and give them an opportunity to discover their story through language. In the end, in comparison both authors Lamott and Murray summarize on the importance of using these techniques when writing.
