The only way a word is racist if it is used with discriminatory intent and understood that way. For example, take the word “eggplant.” The word originally was used by Italians and other Europeans but since then has spread. By itself, “eggplant” is not offense; however, the term can become disrespectful depending on the situation. The usage of this word as a slur refers to one of two situations: an elderly, bald black man, or a shaved, polished black man. The usage originated from the claim that African Americans can be so dark they are almost purple, reminding those who used the term of eggplants. Another similar example is the word “Coon," which initially isn’t offensive, is widely known to mean raccoon or the alternate name of a type of domestic cat. But when used as a racial slur towards African Americans, it refers to them as thieves, as the stereotype associated with them is that they are dark and tend to steal and run, much like a raccoon might. There are a list of terms with hidden double meanings that generate the same mood when used as the two examples given. The common dispute about this word almost not exists by person saying the “N” word, but then again taking more importantly, the approach and relevance when either correctly using the word or
