In the first episode they make mashed potatoes from a pouch and all they have to do is add water. This show uncovers the unhealthy truth about school lunches. The FDA regulates the food that is served for school lunches and breakfasts. They offer all of the food groups, but what they are offering is all processed foods. Eating a bunch of saturated fats is one leading factor to diseases. Mostly heart disease, because saturated fats clog your arteries. Many chronic diseases are linked to eating poorly. “Chronic diseases are the leading cause of death and disability” (The Nutrition Source), this is sad because most chronic diseases are preventable by eating a healthier diet. “70% of deaths are due to chronic diseases” (The Nutrition Source). People can reduce their risk for chronic diseases by eating a healthy diet and getting a good amount of exercise. You have the ability to reduce your risk from getting a chronic disease and or dying from a chronic disease. My Plate is a website and I would strongly suggest using because you are able to track what you eat and exercise. I used it in Nutrition Science and when making the account you were asked some questions and they gave you how many calories you are supposed to eat a day and how much of each food group you should eat everyday, which is the same for most people. This website is just very helpful because sometimes you just decide to eat the first thing you see without thinking about the effect on your body, but when you put what you ate that day into my plate you will be able to see if you made good or bad choices.
