Everyone values something and believes in something. But how did you get these values and beliefs, who influenced you to think that way. People sometimes have events, occasions, country, society, and even stories that will influence the way they think. For example.
In the short story “My Favorite Chaperone” by Jean Davies Okimoto, the family came from Kazakhstan to the United States of America. The little brother (Narzhan) got into a fight. Later the office called the daughter (Maya) down to call her parents, but they couldn't speak english so the daughter (Maya) had translate everything the principal said to her parents. After doing so, the dad wasn't only mad at the son (Narzhan) he was also mad at the daughter (Maya) because “He and Mama thinks its my duty to watch out for Narzhan and keep him out of trouble.” After that the daughter (Maya) wanted to go to this school dance. However, she knew that her mom wouldn't approve because “Mama says that the school is strange to have parties and events after school when students should be doing their homework.” (P.47) However, the Narzhan asked if she can go the parents let her go to the dance.
