Organization culture can take on numerous meanings depending on which nation or company one is analyzing at that moment. In my work experience a company I worked for, Nordstrom had a very interesting and intriguing culture for its employee’s and shoppers. Working for Nordstrom there were many artifacts that distinguished the company as a luxury high-end retailer, striving to give phenomenal customer service. From the bold capitalized letters, the silver shopping bags, the many resources and outlets that can be used for more convenient shopping, the diverse eateries offered in different locations, as well as the great rewards and shopping exclusives offered to the reward members. Nordstrom allows each employee to somewhat be their own boss within the company due to the independence given, there are team and personal sales goals set. How each employee uses the many different tools, to sale and cater to each customer’s needs allows for a stronger culture within the company. The number one rule is “Use good judgement in all situations” (Goodhall, 1992). Obviously with this established, it doesn’t lay out every situation that one would use good judgement. This rule relies on the integrity and good will of the employee to do what is best in any difficult or unforeseen situation that may arise. With the company being commission based there is a great deal of competition that is invoked due to this fact, when trying to close a sale knowing that one can use their good judgement helps within that process. Another contribution to espoused values within Nordstrom would be the numerous manners in which we can sell to our customers at our discretion depending on their needs and what may or may not be present in the store. With the numerous brands and different styles offered within the company, obviously everything can’t be possibly be present in a store at all times. The opportunity to sell to a customer through the Nordstrom text message App, doing a search within the company’s stores and sending it to the customer, or ordering from our online stock creates a better culture influencing the values. Helping to build an ethical foundation, training and preparation, organization fit, continuous improvement, achieving balance (Baack,
