1) The eight specific attributes of organized crime identified by law enforcement and researchers are the absence of political goals, has a limited or exclusive membership, is hierarchical, constitutes a unique subculture, perpetuates itself, exhibits a willingness to use illegal violence, is monopolistic, and is governed by explicit rules and regulations.
2) Organized crime is not just described by one definition, it has multiple meanings. Some consider it a system or organization of people and groups engaged in criminal activities. Organized crime can also be crimes committed by group engaged in planned and sustained criminal activities or a set of large criminal organizations that deal in illegal goods and services.

The Italians could easily increase their role in organized crime because their communities were large enough to provide adequate replacements of personnel in areas such as Chicago and New York. Italian communities were part of Americas middle class and members are well represented in the range of professionals and public officials.
5) I will cover three Robber Barron’s and describe their involvement in organized crime. John Aster’s fortune was based on alcohol and fraud, he died the richest man in America (worth 78 billion) and had pennies when he started. Cornelius Vanderbilt was a “war profiteer”, he made money by the Civil War by securing unfit and rotting vessels for the transport of federal troops at high prices. They not only collected money from violators of the law, but also from individuals who wanted to live peacefully without having windows of their shops smashed by the district leaders gang or without being molested by the police.
9) Cornelius Vanderbilt is often referred to as the Godfather of organized crime because of his implementation of organizational procedure, specialized expertise, and administrative hierarchy.
10) Ethnic succession happens when a group experiences success in crime, and legitimate opportunities thereby become more readily available.
11) The impact that Kefauver Crime Committee and the Presidents Commission had on organized crime was it started considering the different groups and their businesses they were conducting. These committees were special subcommittee’s that were introduced to investigate gambling and racketeering activities.
