The first Jewish revolt happened in 40, when Gaius Caligula demanded that his statue be instituted in the Jerusalem Temple. Gaius Caligula was one of Rome’s less skilled rulers. It happened in Rome, when all the Jews came with their petitions not to force them to make them disobey and disrupt their family code. The Roman people did not think of the people as threatening people. In 65, over 2,700,000 men took part in the Passover celebration in Jerusalem. In 66 Rome first entered battle trying the force the Jews to reinstate Temple sacrifices offered on behalf of the leader. Josephus blamed the Roman leaders and lower-class Jews for the revolt.

A “Jew” is an inheritor of the father Israel and a “gentile” is any person who is not a Jew which means the rest of us. The term “Jew” and “Israelite” are used usually in Scripture. When God came to Abraham about 2000 years before Christ was born, God promised Abraham that he would have offspring through whom all the nations of the earth would be blessed. This promise was made again to Isaac, Abraham’s son by promise and then to Jacob, Isaac’s son. Jacob later was given the name “Israel.” His descendants became known as the Israelites and later as the Jews. There are Jews today who do not believe in any God. There are Jews today who believe that Jesus is the Messiah. There are Jews today who believe that their Messiah has not yet come. It is as hard to say what Jews believe. Belief is personal.
