Infants attach to the people that they are around the most; they can distinguish faces and prefer to be by those that are familiar. Attachment forms from body contact, like being held, instead of nurtured and fed. Everyone is a social creature from the time they are born. Humans attach to those that provide loving and encouraging words, those words and actions give a sense of protection. Basic trust stems from caregivers that are loving, and sensitive, and giving their children the feeling that the world is predictable and reliable. These care givers install strength and a sense of being secure into their children, later in life they will grow up with an attitude of trust instead of fear. Laura was complimenting Gabriel and telling him what she liked about what he was doing. This is reinforcement because Laura is strengthening Gabriel’s likelihood to repeat those actions. Wickelgren (2014) also use the story of Maria and her son Ryan to give us an example of punishment. When Ryan refuses to listen to his mom, he was sent to the time-out chair and could no longer play. If Ryan did not sit in that chair he was sent to the time-out room. Although Ryan did go back and forth between the chair and the room, he eventually stopped getting out of the chair and obeyed his mother.
