I remember mid afternoon, while relaxing on my tattered towel, staring up at the cloudless, powder blue sky, I thought it was time to go on another hike and discover more of our stunning surroundings. Of course, my family agreed and again, we packed up our supplies and started hiking. After twenty minutes of exploring, we were stunned by the amount of people we saw, all with sizable smiles stretched across their faces. While picking another spot to settle in, my family and I listened to some loud cheering and then a splash. There were people were cliff jumping and I knew I had to be one of them. Vigorously, my brother and I raced to the man-made stairs that took us to the top of the cliffs. Low hanging tree branches covered the area; my brother seemed to gracefully push them out of his way while I somehow managed to get my hair tangled in them and arms scraped. With every step I took, I watched as the some loose rocks tumbled down the noticeably steep peak. Finally reaching the edge, we gazed upon the tops of the oak trees and observed our sister, her fiancé, and our mom cheering us on. The countdown began and we leapt off the red rock terrain and plunged into the deep, chilling water. For some it may be something simple like a birthday when they received their favorite toy, or possibly the day someone finally got their extravagant, dream wedding. For me, though, it’s the simple pleasure of being with my family and sharing new experiences together. Sometimes it seems I don’t slow down enough to really take a deeper look at all the amazing things that surround me in my day-to-day life. That is why road tripping with my family to new locations is exceedingly important.
