After a month passed, I exchanged my wheelchair for crutches. The switch to crutches didn’t make life any easier. The crutches were just another mountain I had to climb to learn to walk with them, and they weren’t comfortable either. After exchanging my wheelchair for crutches I was taught how to navigate with them as if I was like learning to walk for the first time again. As the months creeped by, I eventually visited my orthopedist again who asked me to put my crutches down and walk on both feet; until that point I was too scared to attempt to walk without crutches as I feared I would cause more damage, and just like that I was walking again! That summer opened up my eyes, and I gained a new perspective for people with disabilities. Ever since being in that position of limited mobility, I have learned what people with disabilities go through; I now feel empathy for them, and for that reason try to assist those with disabilities every chance I get. This experience also taught me a more important lesson about life: anything could happen to anyone, and one must never take anything in life for granted, no matter how minuscule it may
