With children not being able to participate in extra activities, due to homework, obesity is a very likely result. In 2012, childhood obesity has raised from 7%, 32 years prior, to 18%. (“Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.”) Over doubled in rate, childhood obesity comes from the fact that kids are not as active as they use to be. Another ordeal causing childhood obesity is the problem with extra-curricular activities. Homework being worth so much of final grades can cause dramatic drops in not only the class grades, but also the students’ grade point averages. As homework may have some advantages, there are more disadvantages to the problem. Homework does in fact keep knowledge present in the mind. Homework can go wrong when done in excess, though. On average, teachers assign about 3 and a half of homework per night (US News). So the 6 hours spent by students in school doing work plus 3 and a half hours of homework. This adds up to 9 and a half hours of nothing but work. According to Child Labor Laws, adolescents under 18 years of age are not allowed to work more than 8 hours on a school night (Child Labor Laws). So, by teachers relying on homework to teach their students, children are actually considered to be
