She feels that no one respects her and the attitude as a whole is concerning. “Supervisor X” agrees with “Supervisor Y”, and doesn’t understand why the subordinates are acting this way. The atmosphere with the shift is hateful with a constant power struggle between “Supervisor Y” and her subordinates. “Supervisor Y” is at her last straw and suggests a meeting with the shift over policy violations. With both Supervisor X and Y in the informal meeting, it does not go well, and ends in direct insubordination directed at “Supervisor Y”. “Supervisor Y” after the meeting types up a document of what occurred and sends it to her direct supervisor, and Supervisor X. It is brought to the attention of “supervisor Y” by her manager that the document that was sent to the Manager and “Supervisor X”, was directly given to the subordinates to read. When the subordinates are questioned about how they received the document they advised they were given the document by Supervisor X. When Supervisor X was questioned on how the subordinates got the document Supervisor X, he advised he had no knowledge of the dispatchers having the document directly lying to his Managers. The subordinates were called in as a group and Supervisor X was asked again. He again said the document didn’t come from him. If a leader takes it upon themselves to skew that line of breaking a minor rule what is to stop him/her from allowing a subordinates from breaking a major rule. That puts the liability on the agency and shift. Clearly from the example given “Supervisor X”, although he gave the impression that he would have the back of the subordinates when and if they got in trouble, saved himself as a psychological egoist would do. A leader is put in a position of power to ensure everyone is doing what they are supposed to do, if a person is following the policy put into place by the agency and an incident happens directly related to the policy, the employee as long as they are following protocol is less likely to get into trouble. In conclusion having a leader with no moral values and a psychological egoist with a utilitarian view, is detrimental to the moral and well-being of the
