Coffee was central to exchange and production, soon becoming popular “in the seventeenth century, affluent people all over the world began to drink, smoke, and eat exotic plants that came from long distances.” This exotic plants were used as an aphrodisiac, taking people into stages that would not be possible without them, that being the reason of their popularity. Nowadays coffee is not considered as a drug, before like any drugs today, coffee “… [Was] initially outlawed in consuming countries” without the high demand of coffee trading, it would still be banned today. Trading, and consumption of coffee and other “drugs” was so popular that producers attempted to keep monopolies of their product, but failed since, “they failed when Europeans used the persuasion of trade and the force of warfare to open ports.” This leading to an even greater globalization of drugs, where the profit helped the construction of colonies. While trade is still happening the good and the bad exists as well. Trade is controlled by huge companies, where small entrepreneurs have almost no success in competition with their prices. The prices are so low because some workers are still being exploited, it might not be as severe as taking people as slaves in their own land as the Spaniards did with the Aztecs, but low wages still happen. The desire for money and power takes globalization to be harmful for most citizens, huge plantations require the deforestation of lands which takes us to face environmental problems, and with the growing of the population the damage is irreversible. In fact without trade, product would not be available to everyone as is it now, it connect people by bringing people together, taking a product native from a certain part of the world to become known, and used, bringing people together in a way. Coffee would not be popular, but now coffee is one of the most popular drinks that helps people feel energized. Transportation mainly used for transportation of trading goods, is known commercially used for transportation of people that want to travel and explore other parts of the world.
