Schools have chosen to do this to focus more on the academics and subjects that they believe are more important. Physical education should be a daily part of a school day and only a very small percentage of schools abide by this, some schools only have physical education 3 days a week and that is the next lowest percentage rate. It is recommended for children to get at least 60 minutes of activity a day, so why do school officials and administrators think it is okay to take physical education out of schools. Recess is a way for children to get in the recommended sixty minutes of physical activity. All students should participate in recess. It is not only a way for the students to exercise but for them to also interact socially with students from other classes. Most teachers think taking away recess as a punishment to the student which it is more of a punishment to the both of you. Children need to engage in uncoordinated physical activity so they can let off the energy that has been held in while sitting in. As a teacher that is your time to use the restroom, eat and get the materials ready that are needed for the rest of your day.
