“The Lord has blessed us to maintain and Improve our meeting house over the years. For this we are grateful.” Very stern to stray away from using man made words that they say is not biblical. Primitive Baptist have a strong heritage and a very rich one at that. The saying above was given to me by Neil Phelan, Pastor of a Primitive Baptist. Mr.Phelan never went to seminary and much like most Primitive Baptist pastors learn from passed down knowledge from other elders and self studied. They have no governing board to answer to and no person or persons to tell them what to preach. Mr.Phelan freely claims that Primitive Baptists have a sense of freedom that comes along with the right doctrine that protects them. “We do not get paid to preach by a board and we do not have a retirement given to us by a denomination. We preach because we love Jesus Christ, His truth and for the furtherance of the truth. Therefore, we are not tempted by mammon.” Mr.Phelan claims that it is their way that is right. He is saddened by an instance he ran into although gracious of his freedom, “A few years ago a Southern Baptist preacher called me because he had been listening to some of my messages. He said, ‘Pastor Phelan, I have come to believe that the Primitive Baptist Church has the truth and we have strayed from it. I was at a youth meeting this week and the attire of the young women made me blush. I would come to your church now but I have a wife and I will retire in one year and I can’t.’”
This is to show that Primitive Baptist see themselves apart from the Southern Baptist Convention or anything that will belittle their thoughts on denomination. I would not doubt that they
