President Obama is currently using propaganda to promote his Obamacare plan. I have seen ads on the television that try to gain support for his healthcare plan that is failing. These ads claim that since obamacare, the number of people who have healthcare insurance has increased exponentially. But, what they fail to mention is that the premiums of plans sold on healthcare.gov, will increase an average of 22% in 2017, with some states’ premiums increasing over 100% (abcnews.go.com). This shows that the government will promote their agendas even if they are not working. This type of propaganda is also established in the book 1984 by George Orwell. During hate week, the speaker has to change his speech to be against eastasia instead of eurasia. Even though the people were holding up anti-Eurasia signs the speaker influences them to hate Eastasia instead of Eurasia (Orwell 107). This is a slippery slope that our government is going down. If we start believing everything that they say, we will be like mindless slaves to the government who will believe anything and everything they tell us. When I watched the presidential debates, I saw Donald Trump ask Hillary Clinton about the rising premiums of Obamacare. She then answered that about 20,000,000 people now have healthcare and didn’t before Obamacare. This is true (obamacarefacts.com). The proponents of Obamacare often cite this fact as their argument to keep Obamacare. However, while they say that it helps low to middle income families, they don’t mention that those families will receive a fine if they do not accept Obamacare. This shows that the United States government will try to make one positive outweigh many negatives. They cling to any positive effect of their agendas and stick with that as their only reason that what they are proposing or enacting is for the greater good.
