To start, when the Constitution was first introduced as an improvement to the A.of C. two noteworthy rebellions are caused. (Doc. D and Doc. E.) The first is Shays Rebellion which was caused due to an regional economic depression that was intensified by taxes. These taxes were meant to help pay national debt. However it actually made the farmers (especially in New England) upset since their land was threatened to be taken away. So what did the congress do? of C.’s lack of authority (which is necessary when running a government to some degree) James Madison expresses that just because one certain state does not side with the majority it has delayed the reformation of a more efficient government. (Doc. A) This shows how incapable the A. of C. was at the time unlike the constitution which only requires a ⅔ vote to pass an amendment. Even Washington feels that a new constitution would be best. (Doc. F) The world sat and watched this new government forming in America, of course there were doubts from Europe but America, being the “teenager”, wanted to contradict their “Parent” nations and knew that if they worked hard enough they could prove the world wrong with their new Constitution that would last. The A. of C. was the item that caused Europe to doubt and for good reason too. Under its power our government could not even support itself because it lacked the power to tax without state consent. (Doc. C) To add to that Analogy the main reason they made the A. of C. so weak was because they feared becoming too much like their European “parents” (Just like any
