According to the movie, Violet was raised in Atlanta, Georgia, USA, which put her in a very individualistic culture. An individualistic culture is a society which emphasizes autonomy and encourages children to pursue their own goals as an individual. This is opposite of a collectivist society where the emphasis is on working with others to achieve a common goal (Sigelman, 2012).
