The choice to work in public health was no coincidence. Starting from my first year in college I continued to volunteer for the bi-annual Pulse Polio Immunization Program for three consequent years. I was assigned the task of covering nearly 200 households in the slums of Chandigarh on foot, knocking door-to-door ensuring that the children under the age of five had been vaccinated. The assurance that my humble efforts contributed towards saving the children from a life of disability propelled me to work towards this cause. I could make a difference; benefit a few if not millions.
