Racism is when prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism is directed against someone of a different color/race. Many people have been affected by racism throughout history. Since the Progressive Era racism has not really improved. The Progressive Era is spanned the years from 1890 to 1920 when the United States was experiencing rapid growth (Lewis). Many immigrants were coming over including many different races. Washington dealed with was not the only examples of racism in the progressive era there was much more. Even though many years have past, racism is still common in today´s world. It is so common that it actually has grown inside of people, into their hearts, and past their fundimental beliefs (Watkins). Unfair racial stereotypes have come upon people and they believe that colored people different. Many example of this occur especially in stores, on the streets, and in encounters between police and citizens.
People in their everyday lives see african americans actually think and get nervous. This is due to the stereotypes put on them. Not all colored people are bad or different. They are all human beings but many people don´t view them as that. For example is when one gets into and a white person also comes in, they think nothing of it and believe it´s normal. On the other hand if a colored person came in they´d think something of it and either back up or check there pockets. This example shows us that the world we live in today revolves around
