Cinematography is the art of Motion-Pitures. Spielberg uses a variety of different shots and angles to give the movie a more appealing feel to the viewer. Camera angles and shots let the viewer perceive the movie in many different aspects and points of views. Throughout the film the editors and directors excite and scare the audience through its non-synchronous sound. Whenever Indy is doing something dangerous, for example jumping from one location to another on a rope inside a pit full of snakes his“theme song” starts to play, this is also played when Indy is leaving an intense action scene to show his departure and to ensure the audience that he is safe. When Indy is uncovering something important or opening something mysterious like a mummy coffin then this mysterious and eerie music starts to play in the background to keep the audience on the edge of their seats. The movie is in a low key lighting with some high contrast lighting. High contrast is used mostly on Indy's face to create more drama it is also used with blood. When Indy gets shot the blood is shown in high contrast lighting so the audience knows that he is bleeding, also to frighten the audience and to create more drama and intensity to the scene. High contrast lighting is used on the gold ark with a halo effect on it. The ark is the color gold to show that this is something unique and important to the characters in the movie, there is a halo effect to add the sort of godly and powerful sense to the object. Throughout the film there were multiple jump cuts. This is good to use in a film because it doesn't waste time, and it just gets to the point so the audience does not get board. An example of a jump cut in the movie is when Indy’s is at Marions bar and it had just exploded and she decides to go on the trip with Indy until she gets enough money to restore the bar. So it jump cuts when she says Indy you got a new Partner. And then it cuts to showing an airplane with a map in the background. A single shot is usually used in conversations between to people where it shows just one character talking by themselves in the film. An example of this in the movie is when Indy is talking to his friend the digger with the monkey. The single shot is used it goes from Indy to his friend and then back, it always focuses on the character that is speaking. This shot also uses the 180 rule The 180 rule is when the cinematographer has 2 characters in a scene should maintain the same left or right side relationship to each other.
