In today’s modern society, it is vital that in order for organisations to be successful, they must focus on building competent employees who have aligned themselves with the strategic direction of the organisation. Recruitment and selection can be defined as searching for and obtaining a pool of potential candidates with the desired knowledge, skills and experience to allow an organisation to select the most appropriate people to fill job vacancies against defined position descriptions and specifications (reference). Once a pool of candidates has been identified through the recruitment process the most appropriate candidate, or candidates are identified through a selection process including but not limited to interviewing, reference checking and testing. For an organisation to function efficiently it is imperative to have an effective recruitment and selection plan. By not having an effective recruitment and selection plan it is more likely to result in hiring employees who are not completely suited for the job or loyal to the organisation and this can have significant negative and financial impact on the organisation.
