Erikson’s work became very influential in the field of child development. Without the work of Freud’s psychosexual theory Erikson could have developed these stages of psychosocial. In Erikson’s work he discusses the basic trust versus mistrust stage a child has. Infants must learn that adults can be trusted. Their caregivers or parents must provide all the necessary things they need for survival in order to the child to have trust in them. They must also feel like they are protected and safe. They are going to start to feel anxiety and fear if their needs are not being met or if they being mistreated. If they continued to feel mistreated it’s going leave them with a sense of mistrust. An example of trust that I see in my observation hours, caregivers greet the children in an appropriate matter. The teachers would give them a hug and ask about their morning.
