In this film, I learned a lot about the family involvement in the end of life decisions for patients. There was a variety of patients featured in the film, some who could make decisions on their own but wanted the help and support of their families, some who couldn’t speak their mind at all, and some who were not necessarily psychologically safe to make their own decisions. Specifically in the documentary, I learned about the two most common options for patients who have a breathing tube, the first option being to remove the tube and hope that the patients own lungs can support their breathing needs at least for some …show more content…
This was extremely relevant to me as I have been and will continue to be faced with patients who are sick enough to discuss their end of life decisions. I need to know how to approach these tough topics and how to help the patient and their families make the right decision. This is relevant to my course because in my med surge clinical that goes along with this class I am seeing acute patients everyday that could have to face these tough decisions. This class teaches us how to care for patients with illnesses that could progress to hospice care and end of life
