Because these factors define us as individuals, they also shape the quality of care that we give and our leadership styles. Thus it is important for us to analyze how social, cultural, spiritual and ethical factors influence us.
Social. Social determinants are what governs one’s behavior, attitude and lifestyle. this comprises of cultural, spiritual and ethical belief. Being a leader it is pertinent that we acknowledge our stance in said regards. As demands in health care expands so does health disparities. Studies has shown that “When compared with whites, blacks received worse care on 41% of quality measures” (Wilkinson, 2016, p. 302). As a leader nurses are in a position to reduce this percentage by influencing the masses to uphold social justice regardless of race, by addressing health care disparity through patient centered care and avoiding behaviors that will lead us toward favoritism or …show more content…
Spiritually is a “lifelong process of growth” (Wilkinson, 2016, p. 327). This process can have a positive or negative effect on health as it permeated the nurses approach on wellness and illness. With that in mind it is important for the nurse to know thy self. This helps them to come to terms with their own spirituality and prevent its infringement on client care. According to the Minnesota Board of Nursing a client has the right to choose “care and treatment by spiritual means in lieu of medical care” (Minessota Nursing Boards, n.d). in such scenario a nurse responsibility is not to persuade the patient to conform to the nurse’s belief but to be supportive and respectful of the client’s wishes as long as it does not lead to
