Opening myself to feelings and the feelings of others requires ongoing practice. To use the knowledge acquired during this course one needs to identify and understand the barriers to effective communication. These barriers maybe physical, and or psychological obstacles that interfere with the planning, organization, transmission and understanding of a message. In my case I have identified my obstacles as been impatience, not listening and most importantly not been able to express myself in an effective way. I have come to learn that the natural result of such obstacles or interfering factors leads to the misunderstanding of messages. These factors interfere with the self-confidence, self-disclosure and self-consciousness of the message sent and received. My impatience makes me come across as though am closed minded. Am not open to new ideas or others people’s ideas. Not listening, makes an individual’s continual thinking about his own problems and worries. A bad listeners feel that the thought in his or her mind is more interesting than what the other is saying. Not been able to express myself adequately, makes me agree at everything and everyone. On a personal level I have been on a journey to better myself. During the term I have further more acquired more knowledge about myself, emotionally, mentally and physically. I have learned through interpersonal communication we are nurtured as infants, physically, emotionally and intellectually. Through interpersonal communication we develop cultural, social and psychological links with the world where, the very basis of our survival and growth helps us to function more practically. Understanding the benefits of effective communication helps communities to focus on developing a workforce that is able to communicate within the firm and with customers, vendors and international business
