Another thing that is determined from the comparison is that the energy expenditure for the given activity can be calculated in that one is able to determine the amount of kcal’s used which can then be multiplied by the amount of O2 consumed by the body per minute. Excess postexercise oxygen consumption, EPOC, is the volume of O¬¬2 that is consumed in the minutes that immediately follow a period of exercise is ceased with said volume being higher than the normal consumption at …show more content…
The resting metabolic rate, RMR, is influenced by psychological stress, free-fat mass, body temperature, and body surface area. Body temperature influences RMR through increasing its rate as the temperature increases because since heat is energy the overall amount of energy is increased in order to maintain said temperature increase, which in turn increases RMR. Resting metabolic rate is influenced by psychological stress because since the amount of stress the body is under relates to the activity in the sympathetic nervous system, which RMR is a part of, then as the stress increases so does the body’s RMR. When one’s body surface area is higher, then more heat loss occurs from the skin which in turn causes the energy needed to keep body temperature regulated is increased, thereby raising the resting metabolic rate. RMR is directly related to an individual’s fat-free mass and because of the fact that muscle, or free-fat mass, has a metabolic activity that is high, meaning that the higher the free-fat mass the higher the amount of calories expended in a day, thereby indicating a higher
