Flight was dreamt by many and achieved by two people, Orville and Wilbur
Wright. Orville and Wilbur Wright were born in 1871 and 1867 respectively. Their father
introduced both of them to engineering at a young age and that sparked their interest in
flying. In a biography, written by Tejvan Pettinger, he says, “When they were young,
their father bought them a small ‘helicopter’ – built in France. They later commented that
this helicopter sparked an interest in flight and they sought to build similar models
themselves.” (Pettinger 1). This quote gives an explanation about where they found their
inspiration to construct the plane and achieve flight. Before they had started to build their
plane, …show more content…
Science is the backbone of
engineering and so the brothers had to apply some science to making the plane fly. In the
biography about the Wright brothers, author Fred Howard; he covers their journey to
making the plane and the science involved in it. “Thrust, therefore, must depend on
several discrete but interdependent factors: the shape of the propeller blade; its pitch, or
the angle at which it strikes the air…” (Howard 108). The brothers cracked the code to
flight with their discovery of thrust. With it, future physicists and engineers would use it
to construct newer and better planes, even other forms of air travel. With science
happening every day in the would, flight would not be possible without it and we would
not know the Wright brothers or have the plane.
The Wright brothers’ airplane control system, unique design, and their approach
to constructing the plane paved the way for many more engineers to make their own
planes modeled after the brothers’ plane. With the three-axis control system making
controlling the plane much smoother and give the pilot much more control over the plane.
The design of the plane has gone from the normal glider to the more open approach
