Road rage is responsible for many deaths world-wide due to angry drivers on the road, and the number of deaths caused by road rage is only increasing each year. Road rage is an act of violence due to being angry at someone while driving on the road. In scientist’s terms, road rage is an intermittent explosive disorder, leading to outbursts that involve breaking objects and violence to others. The first recorded incidences of road rage occurred approximately 40 years ago in England. There are a few tips that you can follow that avoid you from getting into road rage as the aggressor or victim. One tip is to keep your emotions to yourself. Another tip is to not use rude gestures that will cause the other driver to get angry. The last tip is to apologize to the driver if you made a mistake by giving them a friendly smile. “Over 85 percent of so-called road rage incidents are likely to disappear if the careless driver simply apologizes” (Business Collection). These two variables are age and gender, who were founded by researchers from examining cases of road rage incidents. Younger drivers (ages 16-25) displayed a more risky driving style than older drivers, in factors of driving fast, leaving narrower gaps between cars in traffic, leaving shorter distances between cars and violating traffic lights. A study was shown that men were found to drive more aggressive than women do. “Male drivers have been observed to react more aggressively that do women to congestion as well as to reckless, inconsiderate, and impatient driving of others. In addition, male drivers may be more prone than women to engage in revengeful and physically aggressive thinking” (Bruce S. Sharkin). With these two variables being proved, younger men are most likely to get in a road rage
