Indirect and Direct Characterization
What is indirect and direct characterization? Indirect Characterization is the process in which the personality of a fictional character is revealed by the characters speech, actions, appearance and so much more. A direct characterization is when the process in which the personality of a fictional character is revealed by using descriptive adjectives, phrases, or epithets. Last year I read many books that use indirect and direct characterization. Also, Rosaline won’t return the love that Romeo is waiting impatiently for. So this is why Romeo is very heart-broken because of Rosaline. Then later when he goes to the Capulet ball where Romeo relieves his depressed feelings, and where he soon becomes romantic when he meets his new love, Juliet. When Romeo first sees Juliet at the Capulet ball, he completely forgets about Rosaline and immediately falls in love with Juliet at first sight. Which now a days we call love at first sight which is basically stated above, but I wanted to clarify that. When he meets Juliet, Romeo says to her, “My lips, two blushing pilgrims, ready stand to smooth that rough touch with a tender kiss” which was stated in Act 1, scene …show more content…
It basically revolves around his personality and how he is and how the author conveys his characters.
There are many books that you can connect Indirect and direct characterization to. I can connect it to the book Animal Farm. In which the author talked about the animals and the humans. How the animals took over farm and so forth. I can connect this to direct characterization because in the book animal farm the humans and the animals are both alike. The author is telling us as the readers how everyone looks and they are thoroughly described in detail how everyone looked down to the animals they all had a significant look to them.
We can use the context in the book and infer many things such as if Napoleon is a greedy and selfish pig, meanwhile Snowball is a better more loving pig who wants to see every animal happy with the life that they have. Napoleon doesn’t really care about what the other animals want it is sort of like a dictatorship when it comes to Napoleon. No one else, but snow ball could have stopped his so he got mad and turned everyone against Snowball. He basically took snowballs living away from him and his life was just
