During the summer of 1997, a study of aircraft maintenance employee schedules was conducted at the flight department of Saudi Aramco (biggest oil company in the world) in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia (Alfares, 1997) Objective was to calculate the current fixed-wing aircraft maintenance worker schedule and come out with solution to improve and to decide the optimum work schedule that fulfills increasing maintenance labor requirements with the lowest cost and highest efficiency. Flight department is responsible for the air transport of the company’s employees and materials to specific areas. The aircraft maintenance division of the department must make sure the safety and airworthiness of the company’s private fleet. The fixed-wing flight line maintenance had been operating on a five-day (Saturday-to-Wednesday) schedule, with two full eight—hour shifts per day. The technology level of the worldwide is keep improving in a very soon period compare to last time. Therefore, Saudi Aramco can use this opportunity well to decrease the time consume by workers to maintenance of the aircraft. By decreasing the time of working, it will decrease the salary to workers. It helps to save time and cost for the company.
Threat
The treat of Saudi Aramco is facing strong rivalry among the industry. As everyone know, Saudi Arabia is famous about producing oil and gas and provide to others country. Therefore, there must be a lot of company that doing the same business in Saudi Arabia that can be the rival of Saudi Aramco. Like example, Oil and Gas Company (OGC) is one of the famous companies in Saudi Arabia. The treats of rivalry had caused a lot of problem to Saudi Aramco, like competing to provide to same country. So that Saudi Aramco has to provide a better service and lower price to win over competitors.
