The study of learning disabilities is an interesting field for research. A lot of research had been done in this field, however, this paper will review about the various concepts relating to scientific validity and is based on Parker's (1993) article on the same. This article is relevant to the gaming industry as most of the points regarding the validity of a research can be related to the gaming industry and it is further explained in this paper. Scientific Validity
Types of validity
In this paper the scientific validity of research is categorized into four types of validity: internal, external, statistical conclusion, and construct validity. Each of these validity have their own threats. In my opinion this scientific validity …show more content…
Running multiple tests on a single data set or running a single test on multiple data sets could not always generate the accurate results. The collected data cannot be completely reliable and if not tested before running the analysis it could lead to inaccurate results. Experimental settings used during the treatments could cause errors if any variables are manipulated or missed during the test. Participant’s diversity and interests can also effect the results of the research.
There are various threats to construct validity and they are as follows, incorrectly defined initial instruments and procedures could lead to inadequate results. When only a single measure or operation is used for research it could not generate an accurate output since not all the measures are considered. When all the measures and operations are used in the same means for research and the data collected is from a single source then it would not lead to accurate …show more content…
It helps to determine the genre and the players market for the game. It is also useful during the development process to balance and tweak the game-play to achieve the optimum settings. It is important to considered data related to players and their preferences while creating the game, with the help of this data a user friendly interface can be implemented within the game. And, finally the based on the players data the game design can be modified to improve the quality. Without the validity of research, it is very difficult to design a game to reach user’s expectations.
Conclusion
I would like to conclude that the validity of a research is important in the gaming industry as it is very reliable in collecting the information from players to design better games. In this paper, I have provided a detailed explanation of types of validity and their threats which could generate inaccurate outcomes. And, I have explained why validity is important for the game design
