Chapter 8 tells us how to install the small hose connections and that’s why Section 8.17.5.1.1 starts with “where required” when small 1 1⁄2 in. hose connections shall be installed. The annex for this section indicates that 1 1/2 in. fire hose packs are not required unless designated by the authority having jurisdiction, as it is not likely that such hoses will be adequately maintained for safe use by first responders.
