Initially the nature of crime is very vague. Depending on one’s beliefs, crime could be defined as any act prohibited to one’s cultural environment. For instance a criminal act can be viewed wrong and against social norms, but can be viewed in another society or social environment as the right thing to do. To myself, my social norms are to follow the laws that the American culture has created. Those who are to enforce these laws are known as Police Officers. Police officers are meant to set a good example and follow the law without violating our constitutional rights, but they are only human. It has shown me to look past the pigment of a person’s skin, criminal history or the religion they practice and learn who they actually are. My beliefs have shown me that even when you take care the apple tree and do everything you could correctly, there would always be the few bad apple in the bunch.
