No right minded individual would embark on an adventure into the unknown without having a reason. The reasoning in this era came in many forms, but most importantly it was religion induced. In 1534, England broke ties with the Roman Catholic Church thus leading to a reform movement to the Church of England. The movement was directed to cleanse or “purify” the church of its Roman Catholic Traditions that seemed unbiblical at the time, later these individuals that sought the reform were referred to as Puritans. The reason they couldn’t do so freely was because England still had control of this new land though the countries were separated by a vast ocean. Since England was in control of the new world, it also fell under English rule. This made it hard for the settlers to not only practice their religions freely but also go about their daily lives in peace without English rule having a hand on whatever they did in the new world. This included profit off the land, which is a valuable asset when trying to not only make a living but also establishes a way of life in a new and prosperous world.
As tensions grew towards English rule colonists began to collaborate, act, and speak out against the English ways. When England caught wind of these doings, England retaliated with a tighter grip over the colonies. The retaliation included higher taxes, more troops, and more enforcement of English law.
