Both the men and the women start to feel lonely when they have to serve on long tours, so they tend to get a little uneasy when it comes to intimacy. The men and women who long for a close relationship with someone tend to try and reach out to others, but it is not always wanted by the other people. Someone who is being sought after for an intimate relationship may let the person who is doing the seeking know that he or she is not interested. Although the victim may not be interested, the perpetrator, may keep trying to persuade the victim to be in that relationship. When the person who longs for the relationship keeps on persisting, it can turn into harassment of the sexual kind. According to Margret E. Bell, et al. in their article, “Impact of Gender on Reactions to Military Sexual Assault and Harassment,” there was a twelve month survey of the men and women who were sexually harassed, and it was found that 6.1 percent of women and 1.2 percent of men reported that they had experienced a completed or attempted sexual assault. Although the percent of women seems to be a lot higher than the percent of men, the numbers are relatively the same. The way that most of the cases of sexual harassment develop in the educational community is when a teacher seduces his or her students by bribing them with better grades or extra credit. There have been numerous movies released that have made fun of student/teacher intimacy, but it is no laughing matter. There are times where the student feels that he or she cannot say no because it could determine the fate of their grades. It is wrong for student to ask the teachers if they can indulge in sexual activity for better grades, so it is not just the teachers who who are doing the harassing.
