Government glasses were horn- rimmed.” Indian Education Sherman Alexie first grade. In the beginning of this story, Alexie was getting bullied at his school on a reservation. He was a smart kid from early on. Throughout the story Sherman Alexie started to venture out and go to a new school. At the new school, primarily white, he broadened his education. “ I walk down the aisle valedictorian of this farm town high school, and my cap doesn't fit because I've grown my hair longer than it's ever been before.” Twelfth grade. As you can see in the beginning of the story Alexie had his hair short, at this time he was still going to school on the reservation. As he went to a new school he got more comfortable with his abilities and not only that. As he became more confident with school he became more confident with his hair. I believe his hair is a symbol of his experiences, time goes on and things evolve.
My experiences in school and Sherman Alexi’s from Indian Education are similar and different. One way it is different is because I did not face the racial problems he faced. Something similar is that we both grew more comfortable in our education. We both realised education is important and we took advantage of it. It is very alike that we both went to new schools and our mindset
