Author Roy Scranton has experienced many different climates throughout the world. One constant he has noticed consistently is the dangerous weather in many places. This extreme weather is often brought upon by forces that are often the result of human interference. As the author has experienced many frightening things during the war, he realized that, in order to live, one must learn to die. Roy Scranton explains that society needs to die as a civilization before it learns how to fix itself and heal the wounds. This means that society must learn what it is truly like to become horrendous before it can identify the problems it needs to fix. If this were included in the Shorthorn, this would help the students by allowing them to realize how they can first change themselves into what is needed to make a larger-scale change to society. They could then apply that knowledge to their families, their friends, their university, and any environment they are placed in the
