Over the last 50 years, 31% of young children have become less active and an average of only 30% meet the recommended requirements of physical activity each day. Participating in sports is vital for children whilst maturing as there are so many skills that can be learned as well keeping fit and active. Not only should children take part in mandatory sports classes - such as PE - but they should also find time in their schedule to start a new sport to occupy their spare time.
A huge issue we have experienced in recent years is young children becoming less and less active. When parents were asked what they felt should be done, an astonishing 43% of them said they relied on school to make sure their child got fresh air. However the biggest problem parent’s face is being able to motivate their child to start, or carry on with, a sport in their free time. This also links back to kids playing video games and occupying their free time in front of screens. If parents pushed their children to try one new sport of their choice, the chances are kids will enjoy it and stick to it whereas if a parent makes their children play a sport they don’t want to do, it could make their children hate sport and not want to participate later on in their childhood.
