In the film Consuming Kids it’s explained how children are consistently seduced by Advertisements and brands. Companies specifically try to make their new-born consumer, customers for life, that technique is known as cradle to grave. The use cartoons, comics book characters, or even food branding. Due to the fact that consumption is an important role in American society, people in other countries suffer whether it is taking their land to build factories or polluting their air and exposing them to toxins, consumption hurts people. In addition to that, Earth’s resources are suffering and soon, these resources will be gone and waste that gets thrown out produce environmental and health hazards which are a major problem the world is facing …show more content…
The extraction stage, is where the Earth’s resources are cut down to create the items consumers want. It is only natural for Earth’s resources to be used for creating products and produce, however corporations take it a step further into not putting in any thought for what may or may not be a bit “too much” extraction. Next is the production stage and this hurts both the environment and people because toxins are being released into the air from the factories that create our possessions. According to Leonard, “In July 2009, we reached 387.81 parts per million (ppm) of carbon dioxide (CO2) in the atmosphere. Leading scientists around the world have identified 350 ppm as maximum level that the atmosphere can contain for the planet to remain as we know it.” (xviii). If this keeps going on, the Earth will result in climate chaos. The last stage is disposal and this is hurting the environment because of the way people dispose of things. “When one adds up all the raw materials and energy that go into the goods and services consumed over an individual 's lifetime, the toll on the environment is staggering” (Overcoming). To get rid of a fraction of the waste on Earth, people turn to incineration, or burning the garbage and then placing it in a hole in the ground. By incinerating garbage, the air, land, and water are polluted, not to
