Buddhavamsa, is a Buddhist scripture, which is a part of the Pali Canon of Theravada (book of scriptures of the Theravadan Buddhist traditions) Buddhavamsa claims there were 24 preceding Buddha’s before the 6th century Buddha. Interesting similarity between Buddha and Mahavira was in the names, Mahavira was born to a Kshatriya chief named Siddhartha and Buddha was a Kshatriya chief, whose birth name was Siddhartha. Both, Buddha and Mahavira, married brides named Yasodara. Both, Buddha and Mahavira, achieved enlightenment under a tree.

While Jainism, as per census there are about 4,200,000 Jain 's in the 1.028 billion population of India. As of 2010 the United States contained the most Jain temples of any country in the Jain diaspora. At least one third of the Jain 's living outside of India live in the United States, numbering close to 100,000. Yes there is a noticeable difference in the number of adherents for the two religions.
