February 13, 2018 Jonathan Edwards Sermon
Jonathan Edwards wrote a sermon, "Sinners in the hands of an angry God" on July 8, 1741. This sermon was delivered during the awakening period. During an awakening time, an individual was transformed from a state of sin through a new birth. He warned that if his audience did not respond, they would suffer the consequences for all eternity. He mentioned that sins are everywhere and for those how have sinned will be punished more then they can imagine. There are three parts to his sermon.

He is the one that will choose who lives and who dies and decides if they shall go to hell or heaven at the end of their life's. Edward stated, " There is nothing that keeps wicked men at any one moment out of hell, but the mere pleasure of God". The first point is that no one has more power than God. We are human being standing before him and we are like rocks being thrown down. In the second mentioned that wicked deserve to be cast into hell. In the third point, they are under a sentence of condemnation to hell. In the fourth point, they are now the objects of that very same anger and wrath of God, that is expressed in the torments of hell. The fifth is that the devil is ready to catch them whenever God gives permission. The Sixth is the fire pit that dragged down the sin. 7 there is no protection from death itself. The 8th point is that even if a man is wise they still cannot protect themselves if they have sinned. 9 stated " All wicked men's pains and contrivance which they use to escape hell, while they continue to reject Christ, and so remain wicked men, do not secure them from hell one moment".
