The reason this battle took place is because the Ghost Dance was a religion created by a man named Wovoka. Wovoka said that if all of the Native Americans lived in peace and harmony, they would go to a paradise where they would not be threatened by the white people. This made the white officials mad and they banned the Ghost Dance. However, the Native Americans continued to do it. So the white people sent in troops. Some of the Native American leaders and their followers went north, but the troops caught up with them and killed Sitting Bill and seven of his Warriors.
