The Green Knight came to this dinner and proposed a challenge where one of King Arthur’s knights would chop off the head of the Green Knight and then one year later he could do the same to one of Arthur’s knights. After moments pass, none of King Arthur’s knights volunteer until Sir Gawain said, “I am the weakest if I lost my life it would be the least of any” (128-9). Sir Gawain, who is a good knight for King Arthur, showed that he was humble and did not boast about himself being one of the knights of the Round Table. By saying how his life didn’t matter as much as the others, yet he was the only one brave enough to accept the offer from the Green Knight. This challenge of chopping the head of off the Green Knight, but then the Knight getting to do the same to Sir Gawain in one year, which will most likely result in Gawain’s death. In addition, now one year later Gawain goes back to meet the Green Knight again to finish the deal. Sir Gawain shows chivalry again by living up to the deal that was made with the Green Knight and meeting him one year later so the Green knight can have the chance to swing the ax at Sir Gawain.
