Not only because it doesn’t fit society’s standards, but because many get shamed. Body shaming is defined as that, when someone shames because of the body type or how that person looks. “The desire to be thin comes from the media’s constant fat shaming and promotion of the idea that thinness equals success.” (Tenreyro) Being a chubby girl is not accepted and is not very appalling to society. Many teens in America suffer from bullying and body shamming. It’s sad because in some cases the bullying/body shamming becomes so bad that the victim can’t take it anymore and ends up taking away his or her life. There has been many body shaming trends going on worldwide, and not only is it unhealthy, but dangerous as well. “A commonly known shamming trend is the thigh gap, which is a space between ones legs if they touch you are seen as overweight.” (Gaffney 12) Too many trends are happening and, many more will form and introduced into society. That particular trend like every other out there is pointless because we all should know that not everyone is the same, and we all have perfect imperfections. Many young teens want to look like the Kylie, Kim or one of the Kardashians, and lots of boys would desire to look like Brat Pitt or Maluma just to name some. Point is that they’re uncomfortable in their own bodies and social media and any other source out there has set a “perfect” body type. If not achieved many are bullied, body shamed, and start participating in unhealthy habits and trends that are both bad mentally and physically. Nonetheless, boys and girls do go through similar body changes noting the obvious physical appearances and primary characteristics of each. Many combine forces such as media and other people rude comments causes the average young teen in American to see oneself poorly. I highly encourage all parents to talk to their youngsters and even adults to open up and to understand and learn that we are all born different, and that’s what makes each and every one of us special. No one should be pushed to gain or lose weight just to fit into what society deems right and or to avoid getting bullied.
