The symptoms are headache, nausea, drowsiness, concentration problems, dry mouth, dizziness, gastrointestinal problems, fatigue, sweating, hyper-excitability, anxiety and general discomfort. College students often do not drink solely on the weekends. Excessive drinking can cause students to skip class due to the several symptoms of having a hangover (Adams).
The problem with underage drinking in the United States is that young people often drink dangerously large amounts. People ages 12-20 drink 11% of all alcohol in the United States. A rather small amount, although the youth drink less often than adults do, when they drink they drink more at the time being (CDC). This is because when 90% of young people drink they are binge drinking.
Binge drinking is the act of drinking heavily with the intention of getting as intoxicated as possible. Binge drinking is dangerous because the large amount of alcohol consumed will impair judgment, which could possibly lead to someone wanting to drive while under the influence or go directly to a person or object and cause harm to it. Along with the mental effects, binge drinking if taken far enough can cause alcohol poisoning and organ failure. It is known that alcohol will impair judgment which could lead to poor decision making like driving while intoxicated, which can lead to the death of the drinker and possibly others. Sexual activity such as unprotected sex, which can lead to unplanned pregnancy or a sexually transmitted disease. Violent or aggressive behavior can also be incited by binge drinking and often violent or aggressive behavior, which more than likely will result in an altercation with law enforcement.
