Generally, people with dementia have serious problems with two or more brain functions, such as memory and language (“Dementia,” 2016). Although dementia is common in very elderly people, it is not considered to be a part of normal aging (“Dementia,” 2016).
Methods
This study took place in Australia and included thirteen participants with a mean age of 81.69. All of the participants were well educated and suffered from profound memory impairment. Through assessments, the researchers collected baseline information in order to give them an information base against which to compare and assess the participant’s progress during and after implementation of the trainings. This was completed over two sessions prior to the start of their Spaced Retrieval Training. Researchers administered the Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) to assess whether participants were able to identify time and place, attention and working memory, memory recall, language function and visuospatial/construction..
