Background Information
What are adaptations and what causes them to occur?
Adaptations occur within a species, or kind. Adaptations are what can either be an advantage or disadvantage for as an example an animal such as an Giraffe. A Giraffe has a long neck as in the past, food wasn't as scarce and was easier to find lower towards the ground, but over a long period of time, the Giraffes developed a special adaptations to overcome this issue, the ones who had the short necks and couldn't reach the food died off, and the ones who gained the needed adaptations from their parents had the upper hand and where able to reach the food they needed to survive. It's often an environment change which causes a change in an adaption, but they caused by a gradual pace of evolution, known as Gradualism, which is slow change over a long period of time of which adds up to big changes over time. Similar to what Darwin believed, first the environment needs to change in order for the species to adapt to said environment, versus what …show more content…
Darwin's Finches is an exceptional example of how this can occur. Looking at the Galapagos Islands, it can inferred that the birds diverged to the island possibly due to a storm or such. The beaks of every bird where specifically suited and designed for specific environments, a wider break for nuts and fruits, and narrow and sharper beaks for digging into the ground and reaching worms, or fine foods, when challenged or moved to a different environment, those shows beaks where not suits to the or adapted to the environment did not last, while those with the beaks that best suited the ambient environment, survived.
