Introduction:
We studied the reaction rate of photosynthesis of spinach leaves from various distances from the light source. Our experiment followed the Biology 152 Photosynthesis Lab. We varied the distance from the leaves and the light source. Our distances we tested were 0, 12, and 24 inches from the light source. This experiment is important in the real world in green houses. The goal is to have plants grow and they can do this by placing plants close to a light source to ultimately get the best rate of photosynthesis. Our hypothesis for this experiment is as the distance from the light source increased the rate of photosynthesis decreased. We predicted that the 0 inches from the light source would produce the highest photosynthesis rate.

Various plants convert C02 into usable energy at different times. For example, Crassulacean Acid Metabolism (CAM) plants fix C02 at night where as C4 plants fix C02 during the day. He studied at different times of the day when the light source intensity varied and its impact on photosynthesis. He concluded that during the day resulted in the highest rate of photosynthesis. And ultimately the mid morning is the best for photosynthesis. Our study didn’t test when plants fix C02 but instead tested the distance affect on C02 levels. From his research and our experiment, you can conclude that the closer the plant is to the light source is the greatest rate depletion of C02 is. This is because the plant is closer to the light which results in a higher light intensity on the plants. Studies of photosynthesis helps gardeners grow the best and healthiest plants. They now know to have the best results of photosynthesis they need to have the light source close to the plant and at a high
