Everybody has lied or gotten lied to in their lifetime. A liar is someone who manipulates the truth constantly as if it really were the truth. People lie for different reasons; sometimes it’s to protect an individual from the hurtful truth, and sometimes to maybe even to cover them from consequences. Whatever the case may be, it’s still a lie nonetheless. Learning the basics on how to spot a lies should be essential for the people who are interested in sorting out the truth from lies people tell.

The direction they look can tell you if they are really recalling events from their past or just trying to make something up. Studies show that typically a glance to the left means they are creating a lie and looking right means they are trying to recall actual events, although this may not always be true. A liar will also try to avoid looking directly at the person because it may make him uncomfortable to keep the eye contact so their eyes tend to wander. Another to spot deception is to looking at body language. The key is to focus on arms and hands because they are most essential for conversation and are the most expressive parts of the body. Awkward hand movements, fidgeting, scratching, ear pulling etc. are all indicators of a lie. Random hand gestures that don’t match the voice and explanation are one of the big signs lie spotters look for. Because most of the time we can’t consciously control how our bodies react when we lie, these signs of deception are proven to be more accurate on the average person
